CTE at MHS

Career Pathways show students a direct connection between doing well in high school and being able to transition smoothly to postsecondary opportunities or getting a good job when they graduate. Students who focus on a Career Pathway acquire the skills necessary for entry into well-paid careers with high potential for rapid financial growth, increased levels of responsibility, and a high degree of personal satisfaction.

Utah Career Pathways align with and are categorized by the national Career Clusters®. Each Career Pathway culminates in an industry recognized credential of value. Go here to reference all  CTE Pathways in Utah

How to concentrate or complete a Pathway:

  • Exploration: Choose one or more exploration courses
  • Concentrator: To be a concentrator you must pass one concentrator course AND one explorer course.
  • Completer: To be a completer you must pass a concentrator course and enough courses to equal 3.0 credits in this pathway. (Note: credits do not have to include a completer course)

CTE Concentrators who pass one explorer course and one concentrator course may receive a certificate & an orange cord for graduation. CTE Completers who pass the concentrator class and receive at least 3.0 credits in the pathway may receive a Certificate, a double orange cord, & a pin for graduation.   • Internship & Related Work Experience Opportunities

    Juniors and seniors have the opportunity to explore a specific career by enrolling in an Internship or Related Work Experience class. Paid and unpaid experiences are available. By participating, students develop workplace skills, set education and career goals, and gain valuable insight into potential career paths.

    Internships

    An internship is a structured work experience that allows students to apply classroom knowledge in a real-world setting.

    • First two weeks: Attend class with the Internship Coordinator in the Career Center at MHS to secure placement and learn workplace expectations.

    • Workplace hours: Complete 40 hours at the internship site each term.

    • Assignments: Complete online assignments focused on career development, such as:

      • LinkedIn profile creation and posts

      • Cover letters and thank-you notes

      • Journals posted to LinkedIn as part of the digital portfolio

      • Mock interviews and other professional skill exercises

    • Credit: Earn 0.25 elective credit per term based on hours, assignments, portfolio, quizzes, and employer evaluations.

    The internship program is limited, with seniors given priority.

    Related Work Experience

    Related Work Experience offers paid, hands-on career development under the guidance of adult mentors.

    • Students learn to work in teams, solve problems, and meet professional expectations.

    • Each placement includes a written training and evaluation plan developed by the student, employer, and Internship Coordinator.

    • Assignments include timesheets, a digital portfolio, and Canvas quizzes to earn elective credit.

    Eligibility Requirements

    Students must:

    • Be a junior or senior

    • Have a minimum 3.0 GPA

    • Maintain good attendance

    • Demonstrate positive citizenship and behavior

    • Have completed or be currently enrolled in CTE coursework related to their career goal

    This program provides juniors and seniors with meaningful, real-world experience directly connected to their career pathway.

    Interested students should:
