LOCAL SCHOLARSHIP AWARD OPPORTUNITIES
Each year at graduation, special awards and scholarships are given to members of the senior class. These awards are given by alumni, community organizations, businesses, private individuals, and families. These are for EVERYONE to apply for; HOWEVER, special consideration will be given to those who otherwise do not have scholarship monies coming to them.

THE WENDELL E. WATTS MEMORIAL AWARD- Mr. and Mrs. Eugene Watts Family
HONORED MALE ATHLETE AWARD (Wendell E. Watts)
A wristwatch will be given annually to the senior male student having the most outstanding record in athletics and academics. The recipient will also receive a cash award in the amount of $500.00. The award is to be made on three years of participation in the Utah High School Athletics Association of a team sport(s) as allowed under the eligibility rules of Murray High School.
HONORED FEMALE ATHLETE AWARD (Wendell E. Watts)
A wristwatch will be given annually to the senior female student having the most outstanding record in athletics and scholarship. The Watts Family will also award the recipient a $500.00 cash award from the Watts Family. The award is to be made on three years of participation in the Utah High School Athletics Association of a team sport(s) as allowed under the eligibility rules of Murray High School.

NORMA M. WITT MEMORIAL AWARD
This $2,000 award was established by the Allan Witt family in honor of Norma M. Witt, a long-time Murray piano and organ instructor, performer, and accompanist. Norma also volunteered her time and musical talent to guide local elementary school students in general music education. The purpose of this award is to recognize achievement in and dedication to Murray High School’s choral or instrumental programs. Participation in either of these programs is a pre-requisite. The scholarship will be awarded based on the following four criteria:
- Musical experience and accomplishments.
- Involvement with the broader musical community.
- Expectations regarding the personal impact of the award.
- Musical talent.
Payment will be awarded upon evidence that the winner is enrolled in a post-high school institution.

GABRIELLE MURRAY MEMORIAL AWARD
This $1000 award was established by the Murray family in honor of Gabrielle Murray, who lived for four short days yet influenced countless lives for good. This award will be given to a student who is dedicated to pursuing a degree in the medical / health science profession. The award will be selected based on the following criteria:
1. It is the desire of Gabrielle Murray’s family that the student graduates from the LDS seminary.
2. The student has a minimum of a 3.7 GPA.
Payment will be made when the student shows evidence that they have enrolled in college.

MURRAY CITY POWER DEPARTMENT ACADEMIC AWARD
Two $1000 awards will be given to two outstanding seniors, one male, and one female who have excelled in the field of math and/or science and is interested in pursuing engineering, math, or science as a career. Students must be residents of Murray City. Preference will be given to students who have not been awarded other scholarships. Payment will be made when the student shows evidence of enrollment in college.
1. Students must have attained an overall G. P. A. of at least 3.0 or higher.
2. Excelled in math or science.
3. Students must be accepted to an accredited two or four-year institution of higher education.
Payment will be made when the student shows evidence that they have enrolled in college.

MARY JENKINS SOFFE FAMILY MUSIC AWARD
One $2000 scholarship will be awarded to an outstanding music student to apply toward the tuition of his/her college of choice. Students must have participated in one or more music programs while attending Murray High School. Priority will be given to students who have not received other scholarship awards.
Payment will be made when the student shows proof of enrollment to a higher institution of learning.

KIRK FAMILY ART AWARD
This annual $1500 scholarship ( funds will be distributed in two payments -$750 each semester–total 2 semesters–proof of enrollment must be shown each semester) will be awarded to a senior student who has recognized the importance of the arts in a well rounded educational experience and has found time to include art related course work during their high school experience grades 9-12. The student must show proof of enrollment each semester in a post-high school educational program.
The award will be selected based on the following criteria:
1. Preference will be given to a student who has successfully taken at least 1 course in the arts each year of high school (grades 9-12) with a B grade or higher.
2. Student must have completed school courses with a B grade or higher in at least two different art fields including music, dance, theater, and visual or media arts in grades 9-12.
3. Student must have participated in at least two school art-related extracurricular organizations or activities such as, but not limited to, a school play, instrumental/vocal performing group, dance company, video yearbook, visual art exhibition, etc.
4. Preference will be given to someone pursuing a degree in an art-related field
Students must submit a description of extracurricular work completed (video, file, picture, etc.), and an essay answering the questions: How have the arts affected your life and educational experience? How do you plan to utilize the arts in the future?
Payment will be made when the student shows evidence that they have enrolled in college.

MURRAY LION’S CLUB MEMORIAL CITIZENSHIP AND SCHOLARSHIP
This $1000 scholarship will be awarded to any higher education institution in Utah and is to be given to a member of the graduating classes each year beginning May 1947. The student must attend and show proof of enrollment in college in order to receive this award. Financial need is a priority for consideration and this award will be based on academics, community, and school service. Students must have been a part of a service organization in high school and/or participated in community service throughout high school. All service hours will be checked/verified.
Payment will be made when the student shows evidence that they have enrolled in college.

CLOVE AWARD
Academic and Service-based Scholarship. A 3.00 GPA minimum will be required for the application. Students must have been a part of a service organization in high school and/or participated in community service throughout high school. All service hours will be checked/verified.
Two $2000 awards will be presented to student(s) to apply toward the tuition of his/her college of choice. Preference will be given to students who do NOT have other scholarships coming to them.
Payment will be made when the student shows evidence that they have enrolled in college.

WILLIAM F. ROBINSON MEMORIAL AWARD
This $2500 award was established by Herb & Jackie Trujillo in honor of William F. Robinson, a former music teacher at Murray High School. The purpose of this award is to recognize outstanding achievement in the areas of choral or instrumental music.
Preference will be given to a student who meets the following criteria:
1. Students must have participated in Murray High School’s choral programs or instrumental music programs.
2. Student of Hispanic descent and financial need is a priority.
Payment will be made when the student shows evidence that they have enrolled in college.

SPARTAN STRONG SCHOLARSHIP
Two $1000 awards will be presented by the Spartan Strong Association. The students chosen to receive this scholarship must meet at least one of the following requirements:
1. The student must have been recognized by Spartan Strong Association with a quarterly award at some point during their three years at MHS.
2. The student may have been honored as an MVP during their three years in high school.
3. The student should demonstrate a high academic standard or show significant academic improvement during their three years at MHS.
4. Financial need is a priority.
Payment will be made when the student shows evidence that they have enrolled in college.

MHS PTSA SCHOLARSHIP
Two $1000 awards will be presented by the PTA. The students chosen to receive this scholarship must turn in the following:
1. Application
2. Transcript
3. Two letters of recommendation: One written by a teacher and one written by an associate through the church, community service, or work. (cannot be a relative)
NOTE: If the applicant has already received $2000 in money or tuition, students are not eligible for this award, and the application will not be considered.
Payment will be made when the student shows evidence that they have enrolled in college.

MURRAY CITY MAYOR’S SCHOLARSHIP AWARD
The Mayor’s two $1000.00 scholarship awards will be awarded to TWO Murray High graduates (one female and one male student) who meet the following criteria:
1. Applicants must be a resident of Murray City to be eligible to apply for this scholarship.
2. This award is intended to assist a student that lives in our community and has shown responsibility, a strong work ethic, commitment, and adaptability throughout high school.
3. Applicants must have at least a minimum GPA of 2.8 or higher to apply for this award and demonstrate their interest in learning and gaining more knowledge through attending a post-secondary educational institution.
4. Special consideration will be given to students who DO NOT have other scholarship monies coming to them.
Payment will be made when the student shows evidence that they have enrolled in college.

DESERVING SPARTAN SCHOLAR AWARD
This $2000 award is open to an outstanding student who has worked diligently, has been committed to achieving their personal best while attending Murray High School and who demonstrates exceptional drive and resiliency. Students who have been offered other scholarship monies from a college/university will NOT be considered. This award is designed to help a student who may not have the financial resources to attend a post-secondary institution and whose financial need is a priority to attend college after high school. Minimum GPA of 2.5 or higher to apply.
Payment will be made when the student shows evidence that they have enrolled in college.

THE WILLIAM V. DeNIRO FAMILY FOUNDATION AWARD
Five worthy graduating seniors will receive $5000 each.
Eligibility requirements:
1. Has demonstrated significant perseverance in overcoming challenges.
2. Demonstrates that financial need is a priority in order to pursue further education at an institution of higher learning or advanced skills and training at a technical school.
Payment will be made when the student shows evidence of enrollment in a post-secondary institution or acceptable technical training program.

JOHN R. WHARTON MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP
This $300 scholarship will be awarded to a Murray High School graduate who plans on pursuing a degree in education: either elementary, secondary, or special education. Students planning to apply for this scholarship must show proof of enrollment in a post-secondary institution and must have declared Education as their major. This award is to help a student who may need extra resources to help pay for their education.
The criteria to apply for this scholarship are as follows:
1. Student must be accepted to a college/university which offers education degrees
2. Have at least a 3.0 GPA.
3. Be on track to graduate
Payment will be made when the student shows evidence that they have enrolled in college.

MURRAY YOUTH CITY COUNCIL HUMANITARIAN SERVICE SCHOLARSHIP (MYCC)
This scholarship award has been established through Murray City and will go to a deserving student(s) that meets the following criteria below. Special consideration will go to students who are committed to service and have spent time, while in high school in service organizations or community-based projects. Please do not apply for this scholarship if you have been offered awards from higher education institutions or programs.
Eligibility:
1. Minimum GPA of 2.0 or higher
2. Students will NOT be considered if other scholarships have been offered or received from a college/university.
3. Scholarship is based on a commitment to the community or a community project(s) that the student is passionate about.
4. Murray Youth City Council (MYCC) membership is appreciated but not required to apply for this scholarship
5. Please attach a current transcript.
Payment will be made when the student shows evidence that they have enrolled in college.

MURRAY HIGH ALUMNI ASSOCIATION SCHOLARSHIP
We feel the pride of being a Spartan and want to help out those who are moving on and pursuing their dreams. This is a $750 scholarship and is open for any graduating senior to apply. Preference may be given to first-generation college students and those with financial needs, but is not exclusively limited to this requirement. We are Murray and we are proud to help support graduating seniors. Go Spartans!
Scholarship money will be sent to the school where the student has enrolled during the first semester that they attend.

TOMORROWS PIONEERS SCHOLARSHIP Presented by Murray Chapter of Sons of Utah Pioneers
Each year the Murray Chapter of the Sons of Utah Pioneers invites their members, high school teachers, administrators, Seminary teachers, and the general public to nominate outstanding high school youths both young men and women to apply for the “Tomorrows Pioneers” scholarship to Schools of their choice. This scholarship is in the amount of $500.00.
Recipients of these scholarships have demonstrated in their own lives the following pioneer ideals;
a. They have practiced in their lives the character traits and virtues of the pioneers.
b. They are free of drugs or the use of alcohol or tobacco and are free of difficulties with the laws of the land.
c. They have overcome significant personal challenges in their lives- physical, social, or economic.
d. They have a need they cannot meet on their own, for funds for schooling.
e. Grades and scholarship are important as the skills and motivation to succeed in the higher education you choose, BUT character is paramount.
f. Recipients will be chosen by Murray’s local Chapter of the Sons of Utah Pioneers

MURRAY HIGH SCHOOL CLASS OF 1992 SCHOLARSHIP
This two-year scholarship in the amount of $1,000/year will be awarded to one Murray High School graduating senior who has shown their dedication to Murray through service in the community. Financial need is a priority for consideration and this award will be based on community and school service, academic efforts, and students’ drive to continue their education. In addition to the scholarship monies, the student will have a professional/mentor from the MHS Class of 1992 Alumni assigned to the student in their area of study to help them be successful in their pursuits.
1st-year requirements:
Short essay explaining how the money will be used and why it is needed for the student to succeed.
Receiving no more than $2,500 in other scholarship money.
Have a minimum high school GPA of 3.0.
Answer questions on the application about their service in the community, what career they want to pursue, and what their future goals and dreams for the future include.
2nd-year requirements:
Maintain 12 credit hours per semester (fall/spring).
Maintain a 3.0 GPA.
Share a video explaining how the individual’s first-year pursuit of their college dreams has gone and how the money from the first-year scholarship was used.
Payment will be made when the student shows evidence that they have enrolled in college.

MURRAY ASSOCIATION OF GIRLS SCHOLARSHIP (MAG)
This is a $1000 scholarship awarded by the Murray Association of Girls (MAG) to a Murray
High School Senior who achieved academically during their time at Murray High,
and has helped make Murray High a better place through their service to Murray
High. Please keep your list of accomplishments to those things directly involved
with Murray High. The selection committee wants to be able to understand
exactly what you did to make Murray High better.
Payment will be made when the student shows evidence that they have enrolled in college.
